Single shaft array is used to penetrate deep brain structure for both acute and chronic recording and/or stimulation.
The single shaft array is made of the 12.5 um platinum/iridium wires that parallel each other. It is suitable for recording a batch of neurons in a relatively small area. The shaft is flexible. It can be bent to any angles. The small shaft makes it easy to penetrate the brain, reaching the deep brain structures such as the amygdala, hypothalamus, piriform cortex, and etc.
These arrays have similar functions to the Michigan probe but have much better yield in chronic recording.
